France's Banijay buys Nordisk
12/10/09

French producer and distributor Banijay Entertainment has bought Nordisk Film TV, the Nordic super-indie. Banijay did not break out any financials for the deal, which covers all of Nordisk's production and distribution businesses.

The Nordic company was previously owned by Scandinavian media group Egmont and has an annual turnover of €50 million (US$73.8 million).

It produces local versions of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Wipeout in Scandinavia and creates its own reality and scripted shows. Current CEO and COO, Jacob Houlind and Peter Hansen, are staying with the company.

Banijay has been an active acquirer of production companies since it was set up by former Endemol boss Stéphane Courbit. It now has stakes in Germany's Brainpool, Spain's Cuarzo, Russia's Intelegencia and US-based Angel City Factory among others.
